Summer Refocus Program: Instill Hope & Initiate Healing

Castlewood’s Summer Refocus Program was developed for motivated clients whose time is precious during the summer months and who wish to focus on the underlying causes of their eating disorder and recovery. Our team works to understand the role of the eating disorder and replace those behaviors with new ones, to build your self-esteem by reconnecting to you at your core, and to free you of the negative self-talk and replace it with self-care. Overcoming Eating Disorders #1LifeAtATime

We are not creating this campaign to start a battle —against the stigma, the myth, the misinformation, and the silence that keeps us from talking about eating disorder recovery openly and honestly but as an empowering challenge to build awareness  through ambassadorship. Ultimately, it is a challenge overcome one person at a time: Advocacy happens not en masse, but through individual hearts and minds opened to the seriousness of eating disorders and the reality of the recovery process. You’ll be hearing more and more about this in the months to come, as Castlewood rolls out the #1LifeAtATime campaign—an advocacy and…

Castlewood Treatment Centers Unveils New #1LifeAtATime Campaign to Promote Eating Disorder Advocacy

Starting in September, Castlewood Treatment Centers will embark on a new awareness-raising campaign called #1LifeAtATime. The focus of the campaign will be how change happens, awareness is raised, and recovery is promoted by one individual at a time; as one person becomes passionate about eating disorder advocacy, that passion has a ripple effect, spreading to others in the community. Castlewood will promote the campaign through blogs and other social media content.

Returning to Castlewood Treatment Center

Guest Post by Rachael Wolf, Dietitian PHP When I started college, I knew that I wanted to work with eating disorders. At that time, I was studying to become a therapist- but that’s beside the point. I remember sitting in a lecture hall at Southeast Missouri State during eating disorder awareness week, listening to a therapist from Castlewood speak about their program. The treatment philosophy was unlike anything I had ever heard- and at that moment, I decided I wanted to work at Castlewood Treatment Center. Working at Castlewood has been a dream of mine for many years, which is…

National Anxiety and Depression Awareness Week

The first week in May—technically May 2 through May 8—is this year’s National Anxiety and Depression Awareness Week. This is a real blessing for those who may struggle with these mental health conditions—a blessing, and an opportunity. Anxiety and depression disorders are common, yet they also remain mired in stigma. Simply put, most of us are afraid to talk about them. Awareness Week, though, provides an invaluable opportunity to speak up, to tell your story, to break the stigma, and to start the conversation. The question is, what could you do for National Anxiety and Depression Awareness Week? What should…

Castlewood’s Summer Refocus Program

For some, summer is a season for taking it easy; for others, summer is where the real work begins. Certainly, summer is a great time to put other aspects of your life on pause, and to really get down to the tough issues of eating disorder recovery. That’s why Castlewood offers a Summer Refocus Program, aimed both at those new to recovery and those who have been in recovery for a while. The aim of this program is simple: Come rededicate yourself to recovery—or dedicate yourself to it for the first time!—and get the support you need to make real,…

Castlewood’s New Partial Hospitalization Program- A Successful First Year!

Guest Post by Nicole Dougherty, Assistant Director of PHP Working with both the PHP team and clients has brought many rewards this past year. It has been an honor to help with the development of the program and to witness the success of the program in providing high quality care to our clients. In transitioning into the role of therapist and Assistant Director this year, I have had the opportunity to observe more of the progress of clients as they adapt healthier ways of coping outside of their eating disorders. Their growth is inspiring and motivates me to provide the best…

Day 29: Ask for Support

As we engage in a month-long exercise in self-expression—our 31 Day Self-Love Diet Writing Challenge—we’re trying to approach the concept of self-love from a number of different angles. Today, we want to look at one prompt that is particularly noteworthy and provocative—the prompt that encourages us to ask for help when we need it. This is so important for anyone who struggles with an eating disorder. Nobody ever recovers all on their own—at least not successfully. You often need to ask for help as you first seek treatment and recovery—and then you need ongoing help, support, and affirmation as your…
