Suicidality and Eating Disorders

Written by Nicole Siegfried, Ph.D I am delighted to join the Castlewood team in opening an affiliate center in Birmingham, Alabama. The Highlands Treatment Center for Eating Disorders is set to open this July and will provide Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and General Outpatient services to males and females ages 18 and older. We plan to expand services to adolescent males and females in January 2014. The Highlands will provide the same evidence-based and compassionate care associated with Castlewood facilities, and will incorporate a multi-disciplinary team that has worked together for several years in the treatment of eating disorders. Castlewood Staff Support MOEDA Gala

The Missouri Eating Disorder Association hosted its annual fundraising gala event this past Saturday evening in St. Louis, Missouri. Castlewood Treatment Centers was the presenting sponsor for the event which was attended by supporters from across Missouri. The Missouri Eating Disorder Association (MOEDA) is the Missouri chapter of the National Eating Disorder Association. The Gala was a huge success, raising funds for eating disorder education, advocacy, prevention, and treatment in the state of Missouri. Let’s Discuss Binge Eating Disorder

This May the American Psychiatric Association will release the DSM-V with many changes to the landscape of mental health diagnoses. One of these changes is the inclusion of Binge Eating Disorder as its own distinct eating disorder diagnosis. To mark this change, KMOV, the St. Louis local CBS affiliate, aired a feature on Binge Eating Disorder. The Nashville Psychotherapy Institute (NPI) hosts lunch and learn continuing education workshops throughout the year to provide continuing education to clinicians in the Nashville area. This week Nancy Albus, LPC Chief Executive Officer of Castlewood Treatment Centers is attending the International Conference on Eating Disorders. The Academy of Eating Disorders coordinates the ICED conference annually, which is held in Montreal this year. The ICED conference is known for its thought provoking lectures based in research and clinical application of evidenced based approaches to the treatment of eating disorders. Victims of Bullying at Greater Risk of Eating Disorders

Guest Blog post written by Jenny Hart Research suggests that one in six American children between third and twelfth grade are bullied; 500,000 took part in a survey conducted by the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. If this isn’t worrying enough, the findings of another piece of analysis show a very strong link between those who are bullied and those who experience an eating disorder.
