May 23, 2011 by admin in Eating Disorder Treatment The Academy of Eating Disorders (AED) has released guidelines for primary care physicians on the assessment, diagnosis, and medical treatment of eating disorders. At Castlewood, we often see clients that have successfully hid their eating disorder from their primary care physician, delaying crucially needed care. We often also hear from clients that when they disclosed their eating disorder to their physician they were met with judgement or told to "just stop it." While we know their are physicians who assess for eating disorders, successfully medically monitor and refer their clients to eating disorder treatment professionals, unfortunately their continues to be a lack of awareness and training regarding eating disorders in the medical field. These new guidelines represent a trend towards the goal of increased awareness and early intervention of Eating Disorders.
The guidelines can be downloaded from the AED website.
